Transit Blocks 'Defend the Legacy' Bridge Component of March
Management of 'Defend the Legacy' exhausted all avenues with Transit to negotiate the Auckland Harbour Bridge component of their event planned for 5th March 2005.
"Having negotiated with Transit in detail we satisfied every requirement including safety and congestion. Nevertheless, it is apparent that an executive order has been made outside of this process and the last two months planning has proven to be futile", says Pastor Andrew Stock, spokesman for 'Defend the Legacy' management.
'Defend the Legacy', a Christian based event, was launched following the governments passing of same-sex marriage laws last year. It marks a stand for traditional family values, the institution of marriage and the well being of children.
"We are extremely disappointed with this outcome. In the light of past bridge events such as the recent hikoi, and a bridge event approved by Transit for October 2005, it is interesting that the same law has been applied differently to our event. We shall seek advice on this", Pastor Stock added.
Victoria Park has been confirmed as the venue for formalities and management will consider options in terms of a march route with ACC. Further details of the event will be released next week. An event website outlines information and can be viewed on www.legacy.org.nz.
