Transport announcement transparent distraction

National Party Wellington Central Candidate Mark Blumsky is amazed that after five years in Government Labour chose to announce a rehashed transport package for the capital, just two days after National Party Leader Don Brash’s Orewa speech.

“After five years of fierce lobbying from locals, the timing does seem a little suspicious,” says Mr Blumsky.

“Labour’s Wellington MPs have been a complete failure in advocating for their region when it comes to roading. Now they appear to be too scared to raise their heads.

“The transport announcement is reported to conveniently overlook one of the key problems facing Wellington – it’s northern access route.

“And nearly half of the so-called extra money is being spent on public transport and cycle ways. National is supportive of those initiatives, but not at the expense of motorist safety.

“The Government has also admitted there is a significant shortfall in the amount of funding available for Wellington over the next decade and ratepayers are likely to face rates rises as a result.

“Where are Labour’s Wellington MPs on this?” asks Mr Blumsky.
