MFAT Tsunami Update 12

1 Thailand. As of 1700 New Zealand time (NZT), NZ officials now have 835 names on their database. Of these , 526 are now confirmed OK, one confirmed deceased, and 10 are in hospitals. There are 65 New Zealanders unaccounted for and known to have been in the affected areas. 233 others are unaccounted for and thought to have been somewhere in Thailand.

2 The funeral for Leonie Cosens will take place out of Phuket at 1130 Phuket time today (1730 NZT)

3 For reasons of health and the possible spread of disease, and because visual identification of deceased persons is now impractical, relatives are strongly advised against travel to affected areas. Assistance details including consular advice and medical support is posted on the MFAT and Ministry of Health websites.

4 The RNZAF 757, carrying the Disaster Victim Indentification and Emergency Response teams, is expected to touch down at Phuket around 1830 NZT today.

5 Information re India and Sri Lanka as per Update 11: further information will be provided as it comes to hand.
