National narrows down hunt for Dunne challenger
The National Party has narrowed down the hunt for a challenger to Peter Dunne in Ohariu Belmont during the next election campaign.
“Two names have emerged from a hotly contested pre-selection race. Both candidates have the credentials and the experience to provide strong representation for the Ohariu Belmont community,” says National’s local electorate chair Tony Heyward.
The two candidates are Katrina Shanks a self-employed accountant, along with pilot and businessman Simon Wright.
Their names go to final selection at a meeting of the National Party’s Ohariu Belmont electorate team on December 20.
“We certainly don’t think Peter Dunne is untouchable and we have no doubt the area would benefit greatly from an MP who is inside the next Government rather than watching from the fringes.
“Ohariu Belmont should be a natural National seat. We want to make it that way again,” says Mr Heyward.
