Zaoui Case - Friends Of Israel Call On Govt To Drop Appeal
The Hawke's Bay branch of the New Zealand friends of Israel Association welcomes the news that the Supreme Court has granted bail to Algerian lecturer Ahmed Zaoui.
"Our branch first protested Mr Zaoui's detention in a letter dated July 2003 to TukiTuki Labour MP Rick Barker," branch chairman John McCormick said.
Mr McCormack said: "We endorse the statement by Professor Dov Bing of Waikato University in support of Mr Zaoui and noted in the book titled: I Almost Forgot About The Moon.
"We call on the New Zealand government to drop its appeal to the Supreme Court that seeks to have Ahmed Zaoui's human rights not considered during a review of the security risk certificate and to accept defeat gracefully."
