"Church building attacked by pro- civil union activists"
Greenlane Christian Centre's billboard saying "Civil Unions is not same-sex marriage - yeah right" has been defaced after condoms filled with pink and white paint were thrown at it. The church building was also damaged by the vandalism.
"People are welcome to complain as this is a free society, but it is deplorable for our property to be trespassed and vandalised in the process," says Senior Minister Terry Calkin.
"We have received several intolerant and hateful phone calls in response to our billboard, which sits permanently on the back of the church facing the southern motorway," says Terry Calkin.
"One call yesterday requested that the billboard be removed, and then last night it was desecrated," says Terry Calkin.
"There has been much fuss made over extreme lobbying and protest, but most of the attention has focused on those who oppose the Bill. Clearly supporters are equally willing to go to extremes, even to break the law," says Terry Calkin.
"We have been surprised with the level of intolerance towards our billboard, which does not attack homosexuals, but rather the dishonesty of the Civil Union Bill," says Terry Calkin.
"Greenlane Christian Centre has for many years had the billboard above the motorway which often draws on current issues to express a spiritual message, and this is the first time that the billboard has been attacked," says Terry Calkin.
