Support for Super Gives Certainty
Major political party support for the NZ Super Fund provided greater certainty for a generation of workers, Council of Trade Unions president Ross Wilson said today.
The National Party has now committed to support the “Cullen” fund.
While the fund only provided part of the answer to ensuring adequate income in retirement, it was important that New Zealanders knew they could rely on a basic state provision, Ross Wilson said.
“Now we need to get on with the job of ensuring there is much greater access to workplace superannuation schemes,” he said.
Investment was also needed in skills, technology and improved productivity so that there was a significant lift in incomes which would in turn provide more opportunities for workers to save for their retirement.
