Absolute Abstinence a Hit with Teens
250 young people made a declaration of abstinence from sex before marriage at the launch of the ‘Absolute Abstinence’
program designed by the Destiny Youth Development Trust. The event was attended by over a thousand people.
“This strategy is Destiny NZ policy in action. Abstinence should be the entry point of sex education because this
message credits our young people with the intelligence and fortitude to make decisions that provide the best and safest
outcomes for their future,” said Destiny NZ leader, Richard Lewis.
The declaration of abstinence also extends to alcohol and drugs and is symbolised by a gold and diamond ring worn by the
individual as a sign of their commitment. This event was preceded by an eight week course about the dangers of sexual
promiscuity, alcohol and drugs.
“At a time when the media is force-feeding our young people with sex, violence, drugs and alcohol, which are evidenced
in the appalling statistics involving STD’s, abortions and unwanted pregnancies, this is the kind of strategy that
restores hope and offers a better way for our younger generation,” Lewis added.
The event concluded with at least 300 young people signing up for the next abstinence course.
