New Zealand Flag to be flown at half-mast for funeral of Princess Alice
The Queen’s aunt, Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, has died. She died peacefully in her sleep on Friday 29th
October, at Kensington Palace, London. Princess Alice was just two months short of her 103rd birthday.
Princess Alice was the widow of the late Henry, Duke of Gloucester, third son of King George V, and the mother of
Richard, Duke of Gloucester. Her granddaughter, Lady Davina Windsor, was recently married to Gary Lewis, a New
Zealander.
The New Zealand flag should be flown at half-mast on the day of the funeral of a member of the Royal Family. The funeral
of Princess Alice will be held on Friday 5th November. The New Zealand Flag Institute accordingly calls upon New
Zealander’s to observe this date in the appropriate manner.
