Campaign launches Civil Union ad

Hundreds of supporters have signed up to help pay for a newspaper advertisement in favour of the Civil Union Bill and Relationships (Statutory References) Bill.

“The response from civil union supporters has been fantastic. We are nearly half way toward achieving our ambitious target after just one week”, said spokesperson Michael Wallmannsberger.

Campaign for Civil Unions (Auckland) Incorporated began collecting signatures for the advertisement last week through the civilunions.org.nz website and a national network of civil union supporters.

“This ad makes it easy for fair-minded New Zealanders to take a stand against unjustified discrimination: supporters can sign up on the website in a couple of minutes”, said Mr Wallmannsberger.

The ad will feature the names of those supporters who choose to sign it and will appear in a major New Zealand newspaper before the Bills are reported back to Parliament.

“In twenty years time, a new generation of New Zealanders will look back on this ad and thank our supporters for taking a principled stand for equality”, concluded Mr Wallmannsberger.

To sign the ad and for more information about the campaign to support the Civil Union Bill, people can visit www.civilunions.org.nz.
