Last Chance For 233,000 New Zealanders To Enrol For Local Elections

Some 233,000 eligible electors have until next Friday 8 October to enrol to vote in this year's local council and district health board elections.

"Eligible electors can enrol or update their details up to and including Friday 8 October but they cannot enrol on Saturday 9 October, Election Day," said Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager Murray Wicks. "They will also need to request special voting papers from the Electoral Officer at their local council."

Enrolment forms are available at any PostShop, public library or local council office, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from the elections website at www.elections.org.nz.

"People can call the 0800 number if they have any enrolment queries and they can check their enrolment status at the elections website or at any PostShop or public library. They can also update their enrolment details or enrol online," Mr Wicks said.

"Enrolling or updating your details is easy and takes just a couple minutes to do. We're urging all eligible electors to make sure they're enrolled to have their say on Election Day."

Currently, one in 12 eligible voters is not enrolled to vote in the elections.
