Statistics NZ Project More One Parent Families
"Statistics New Zealand have just released their family and household projections for up to 2021," said Lindsay Mitchell, petitioner for a Parliamentary review of the DPB.
"One-parent households are expected to increase by 26.4 percent from a 2001 baseline. Two-parent households will drop by 6.2 percent."
"By 2021, one-parent households will account for 37.5 percent of all households with children."
"The implications of these projections are alarming because not only do most one-parent families rely on the state for their survival, but their children are at greater risk of experiencing health, education and social problems."
"Government is doing nothing to arrest this trend. Its interventionist, redistributionist policies will continue to have a direct bearing on the growth of one parent families."
"Fatherless children are yet another negative social indicator in which NZ will lead the world."
