Mayoral candidate denounces charity.
"I have just read an article about Christchurch's City Mission having to turn people away from its shelter because of increased demand for that service. Why do we need charity? It is because capitalism as a social system is a failure. Charity is only a band-aid for capitalism, when the system needs a heart transplant" said Anti-Capitalist Alliance mayoral candidate Sam Kingi.
"People shouldn't have to live on the street. The current system has obviously failed them and it is time for change. We should seriously look at picketing the City Mission, as poverty is a symptom of capitalism just like imperialist war" said Sam Kingi.
Sam Kingi concluded with "other people only look at changing little aspects of the current system such as lowering rates or getting tough on crime. My party and I stand for genuine change and a real alternative and are actually doing something, rather than saving it for parliament or council we are involved in unionising workers and agitating amongst them right now."
