In a Land of Plenty Film Screening 30 August
Come and Join the Wellington People’s Centre in marking the 20th anniversary of the election of the 1984 Labour Government with this controversial film.
In a Land of Plenty is the story of unemployment in New Zealand. Journey from the 1930’s, a time when full employment was the first objective of economic policy, through the 1980’s to today where mass unemployment has become a deliberately planned strategy of market reforms.
This full-length film uses interviews with politicians, Treasury and Reserve Bank officials, Trade Unionists and others to tell its story. Narrated by Ian Johnston.
Director Alister Barry will be speaking briefly about the film and taking questions after the screening.
