Further Strike Action Imminent in Richmond Fellowship

National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) members who work for private mental health provider Richmond Fellowship have resolved to take further industrial action in pursuit of their claims for a fair and just collective employment agreement.

“Delegates met at a strike committee at the end of last week and made plans for a withdrawal of labour” said NUPE organiser John Kerr.

“We took strike action in May and June but, in the interests of ensuring client and community safety, gave 14 days notice. It is now clear that this simply gave the employer an opportunity to minimise the effects of the action on their operation. Accordingly, our members have agreed to reduce the notice period to the absolute minimum to safeguard clients and the community. Members will commence strike action in the next few days unless we can resolve matters” said John Kerr.

“Negotiations between the Combined Unions (NUPE and the Service and Food Workers’ Union) and Richmond Fellowship have been going on since before last Christmas yet the employer has made no pay offer! A meeting with management is arranged for tomorrow afternoon. We hope this will lead to progress and allow us to avoid industrial action” said John Kerr.
