Public Smoking
Libz in Council Congratulation Shock!
Libertarianz Leader, Bernard Darnton congratulates the Gisborne District Council for abandoning their Mayor's plan to ban smoking in so-called 'public' places.
"Finally we have a Local Body who is willing to stand up for freedom and ignore pressure from an interfering Nanny State", says Darnton.
"New Zealanders are losing many of their property rights and freedoms, and it is pleasing to see that the GDC is not going to buckle on this one."
Darnton reiterated Libertarianz policy, that it is up to the owner of a business to allow smoking on their property or not, rather than having the decision made for them by an interfering bunch of dictatorial Politicians. Banning smoking in a public area is "tantamount to Fascism," reminds Darnton, a policy first introduced by Hitler's Germany.
"The Smokefree legislation coming into force soon is criminal", says Darnton. "It allows a Government to dictate what can or cannot be done on someone's property; whether it be a cafe, bar or RSA, each of these has an aowner or set of owners with whom decisions such as these correctly lie.
Mr Darnton concluded "Mayor Meng Foon's Council have obviously seen the light of freedom, and sensibly thrown out his fascist proposal."
