The Race For Tamaki Heats Up As Another Candidate Vies For The Seat

Auckland, 15 July 2004 - Margaret Voyce, the first contender for the safe National electorate of Tamaki, announced today that she is delighted to welcome another candidate into the selection race.

Voyce says she learnt this morning that high profile businessman Denis Orme also announced his intention to challenge for the seat of incumbent Tamaki MP Clem Simich.

"This is just what the people of Tamaki needed - proof that politics is alive and kicking! A good contest will ensure that the Tamaki people get the candidate they deserve, and will also be in great shape for the 2005 election. The National Party believes in choice, so do the people of Tamaki, and so do I," says Voyce.

In response to claims of being called a 'stalking horse' Voyce says that she is her own woman and is determined to show Tamaki what a difference she can make as their next Member of Parliament.

"I am my own woman, and I will continue to vigorously pursue the Tamaki seat because that is what the people are telling me I should do. I am glad to answer their call and take up the challenge."

Voyce also says that she looks forward to meeting Denis Orme and other contenders on the campaign trail.

"I said right from the start that I hope many others enter the race for Tamaki - the people of Tamaki deserve a vigorous, challenging selection from a range of candidates - may the best person win!
