Windymedia Film Night, screening * 'Whose News?'

Filmed and produced by Auckland Indymedia (25 mins), 2004

- "This recent documentary produced by Auckland Doco Collective looks at who owns New Zealand's major media outlets and why we should be worried about it. The New Zealand mediascape is one of the most commercialised media markets in the world with a high concentration of ownership in the hands of just a few overseas companies: Canwest, ANM, Fairfax and INL. Whose News? asks what this pattern of media ownership means for our democracy and what we can do about it"; includes interviews with Alastair Thompson (Scoop), Bill Rosenberg (Media Market Analyst) and Dr Joe Atkinson (media researcher). *

'Kilometer 0 // The WTO Ministerial shipwrecks in Cancun, Mexico'

"A Big Noise Tactical film, a not-for-profit, all-volunteer collective of media-makers around the world, dedicated to circulating beautiful, passionate, revolutionary images. Based in New York. (58 mins), 2003 English, Spanish w/ English subtitles" and "Fresh from the streets of Cancún, Indymedia video brings you images of the WTO's collapse.

As preparations are being made for the Free Trade Area of the Americas meeting in Miami this November, we celebrate the courage and victories of our movements in the streets. Into the nonplace of capital we conjure the reality of our many worlds. Against a disembodied global violence we bring our word made blood and bone. With our step we rewrite the meaning of these streets. And with our cameras we bring echoes of these days and worlds into other places and times."

"A short documentary produced by Auckland indymedia about several of animal rights activist who had their homes raided by the police after several recent successful actions in Auckland. The police arrested 4 activists and items were confiscated from the activists homes include computer hard drives, leaflets, badges, posters, cameras, video tapes, cell phones, hand written notes, diaries, magazines, and computers. In short, everything vaguely related to political dissent. Charges are primarily 'disorderly' and 'intimidation' apparently relating back to anti-fur protests in April and May - protests which the activists maintain were peaceful."
