Vehicle licensing services move on line
In the true spirit of accessible e-commerce services, the LTSA’s new vehicle licensing transaction website is being heralded by early users as simple and easy to use. The site, www.ltsatransact.govt.nz, went live yesterday afternoon.
“The beauty of e-commerce is that you don’t need to leave your home, or desk, to carry out a transaction. The fact that vehicle licensing affects such a vast number of New Zealanders makes it that much more significant that the LTSA is a forerunner in making government services accessible online," Mr Duynhoven said.
“Early users have commented that the site is logical, straight forward, quick and easy to use,” said David Wright. “In a very simple, step-by-step process, it will take most people less than five minutes to complete the transaction, and their new vehicle licence will be in the post.”
But behind the simple process on screen lies a large and complex mainframe database which supports 5.2 million vehicle licensing transactions every year.
“A significant amount of effort has gone into ensuring that leading internet technologies have been utilised, but that the site remains simple and functional,” Mr Wright said. “The service has been built in line with government guidelines developed by the eGovernment unit of the State Services Commission to ensure direct access by the public to government services.”
online licensing two of two
The basic building blocks for this site mean that vehicle re-licensing is one of several LTSA services that will go online over the next few months, including booking practical driver licence tests online and applying for vehicle licensing exemptions.
There will be no change to LTSA motor vehicle registration agent services, and people will still be able to re-license their vehicle in person through an agent if they don’t have a credit card or don’t have access to the internet.
