From Pulpit To Polling Booth: Destiny NZ Heads To Tauranga

Yesterday’s Sunday Star Times article titled ‘From Pulpit to Polling Booth’ (Sunday June 6 p A10) was predictable in its conclusions says Destiny New Zealand leader, Richard Lewis.

He says the article, which focused on Destiny Church and Destiny NZ political party, confused the relationship between the two organisations.

“It’s understandable and one of the reasons why we’ve been holding public meetings around the country this year,” says Lewis. “One of our aims is to correct that misconception. While key founders of Destiny NZ political party are members of Destiny Church, our vision has always been to embrace the wider community regardless of their religious beliefs. In fact, some of our best feedback and support has come from people who wouldn’t necessarily identify with Christianity, but who appreciate our strong moral vision and passion to empower families.”

Launched on 4th July 2003, Destiny NZ has been building toward the next elections with the intention of standing first-class candidates in most New Zealand electorates.

“Destiny NZ delegates will be tried and proven where it matters most – in our communities and in the fields where they intend to contribute. Most importantly, they will pursue our mission of strengthening families and creating a better future for our children,” says Lewis.

Destiny NZ’s policies are designed to strengthen the family unit.

“The family impacts on virtually every sector of society. Whether you want to improve health, welfare, justice, education or even the economy, the family unit is the best place to start. It is apparent that key politicians are ignorant of this vital truth. This compelled people like me to step into the political arena to uphold family values and common sense standards of living,” says Lewis.

Destiny NZ’s economic policies include the lowering of the personal and corporate tax rates, providing ‘real’ support for businesses, and a dedicated exporter support policy.

The party will be presenting an overview of its policies at a public meeting in Tauranga this Friday. The meeting starts at 7.30 pm Friday (11 June) at the Destiny Building at Red Square in Tauranga.
