The NZAMI's Seven Point Regulation Proposal

18 May 2004
The NZAMI's Seven Point Regulation Proposal

1. All agents, lawyers and consultants engaged in submitting applications for immigration should be registered

2. A regulatory body should be set-up with representation from the immigration industry, the New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS) and immigrant communities

3. An independent commissioner should be appointed to run the regulatory body

4. Codes of conduct and competence standards should be established for registered agents and consultants

5. The NZIS should only accept applications lodged by registered agents/consultants or the would-be immigrants themselves

6. The registration requirement should apply to all agents and consultants lodging applications with the NZIS from overseas, as well as to those operating in New Zealand

7. The cost of the regulatory service should be met in part through registration fees
