NZ Leader to head up Army in UK and Ireland

NZ Salvation Army Leader to head up Army in UK and Ireland
Salvation Army Commissioner Shaw Clifton is to take up a new appointment as territorial leader of the United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland. Commissioner Clifton currently heads The Salvation Army’s work in New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.
Commissioner Helen Clifton, who is currently President of Women’s Ministries in the New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga Territory has been appointed to the same role in the United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland. Both appointments are effective from 1 June, 2004.
‘It has been a great honour for us to work closely with people from all sectors of society and we will miss our many friends here,’ said Commissioner Shaw Clifton.
‘We are proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of The Salvation Army’s long tradition in New Zealand of transforming lives through God’s grace and caring for people in need.’
Commissioner’s Shaw and Helen Clifton have been based at The Salvation Army’s Wellington headquarters since 2002. They were previously territorial leaders for Pakistan and have also held educational, corps (church), divisional and other specialist appointments in the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, USA Eastern Territory and at the Army’s International Headquarters (IHQ) in London.
The Cliftons will be succeeded in June by Lieut-Colonels Garth and Mel McKenzie, currently Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women’s, Adult and Family Ministries of the New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga Territory.
