Do the Famine, get the tee shirt

For the first time in the history of the 40 Hour Famine in New Zealand (28 years), young people who want to, can purchase their Famine tee shirt at their favourite shopping mall through the Postie Plus stores nationwide.

Formerly, students who wanted a Famine tee shirt had to approach the World Vision office, or hope to score one at a Famine Conference for senior students. A lucky Faminer might win one from a local radio station, or through their school, but they've been as hard to get hold of as hen's teeth. But not any more.

Every year, the Famine tee shirts carry a design based on the theme of the Famine for that year. The 40 Hour Famine 04 carries the strapline: "Peace not pieces', emphasising the focus on children of war. The design on the tee shirt morphs from a fighter plane into a dove.

World Vision's Youth Marketing Manager, Lisa Trail, explains the importance of this year's theme. "When a war happens it's often children who pay the biggest price. Their families and homes are destroyed, adults are killed and often, as in Rwanda and Cambodia, they're left on their own, or with younger siblings to protect. Life in developing countries is hard enough without having to cope with the effect of war as well. These children need a lot of help, and it's good for New Zealand young people to know that they can make a difference. By going on the 40 Hour Famine and raising money through sponsorships, they're doing something really practical to help kids who aren't nearly as privileged as Kiwi kids."

Baggy and fitted white Famine tee shirts are available from Postie Plus for $19.95 adults, and $17.95 children. And at least $5 from the sale of each shirt will go into Famine funds. So just by wearing a Famine tee shirt, you're making a difference.

Postie Plus stores can be located on their website: www.postieplus.co.nz
