Why Are Electricity Prices Set To Climb?

Why Are Electricity Prices Set To Climb?

Upon hearing of the damage to the DC link yesterday Mr Graham Stairmand President of Grey Power has asked the question, “why does this have to mean higher prices for electricity immediately?”. Such calamities are always a potential danger to electricity suppliers as has been proven many times in the past. The companies involved in the supply business should be prepared for such emergencies and not exploit them to profiteer. It is not a situation that requires emergency generation.

One has to ask, why was power flowing from South to North at this time? Recently we have been indoctrinated with propaganda that there is a major prospect of power shortages again this coming Winter due to low inflows into the South Island lakes. Therefore the North Island generators should already have been on full capacity to preserve the storage in the Southern lakes. Responsible power planning means that action should be taken now

It is plain that the plan is to “create” the shortages in order to be able to push prices up as high as possible. It seems to have been forgotten that out of last years so called shortages the generating companies have returned bigger profits than ever. We had to endure rationing to make the fat cats fatter than ever.
