GE Onions in Violation of Peoples Moratorium
GE Onions in Violation of Peoples Moratorium.
The Peoples Moratorium Enforcement Agency (PMEA) condemns the ERMA decision approving field trials of genetically modified onions. The PMEA reminds the New Zealand Institute for Crop & Food Research that while this application may have been approved by ERMA, any attempts to plant such crops are in violation of the Peoples Moratorium and will necessarily be met with non-violent direct action. The PMEA will be running a direct action training camp at Mountain Valley School on 2-4 January. Among its many workshops will be training people to decontaminate field trails such as this one.
"The vast majority of submissions made during the application process strongly opposed these field trials; they were just simply ignored." Says PMEA spokesperson Lenka Rochford
"Non-violent direct action is all we have left; it is our civic duty to remove these crops before they ruin New Zealand's economy and environment."
"The livelihood
of organic farmers will be destroyed by the reckless
behaviour of eco-terrorists such as the New Zealand
Institute for Crop & Food Research. The facts speak for
themselves 70% of our export market goes to the European
Union and they don't want GE food, meanwhile, the organic
sector is quickly growing into a billion dollar industry.
The question remains, who benefits from GE?" Says Rochford
