Air NZ drugs test-case back in court
The Air New Zealand drugs testing case goes back to court on Friday (December 19).
The six unions which are challenging the airline’s plans to introduce drug and alcohol testing of its workforce are seeking leave to file further evidence.
The unions put their case to a full bench of the Employment Court in October, but say that they want to recall former Air New Zealand chief medical officer Dr David Black to examine changes made by the airline since the hearing.
Friday’s application will be heard by Chief Employment Court Judge Tom Goddard, with Judge Barrie Travis and Judge Graeme Colgan.
The unions involved in the case are the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing (EPMU), Service and Food Workers’ Union (SFWU), Flight Attendants and Related Services’ Union (FARSA), the Aviation and Marine Engineers’ Association, the Aviation Industry Officers’ Union and Pegasus.
The case is considered a test-case, with the Council of Trade Unions, Business New Zealand and the Privacy Commissioner expected to make submissions to the court in February.
