Time For An Apology From The Fisheries Commission
Time For An Apology From The Fisheries
Commission
National Urban Maori Authority (NUMA) Chairman Willie Jackson has condemned the attitude of Te Ohu Kai Moana CEO Robin Hapi for his patronising and arrogant response to the latest High Court decision relating to urban Maori.
Mr Jackson said that the High Court decision
that has been released clearly finds the commission guilty
of “irrational discrimination” towards urban Maori.
Robin Hapi’s response is that it is helpful to have legal clarity on these issues, nowhere in his or the Commissions response, is there any concession that he and his mates have been responsible for trying to shut out the interests of thousands of Maori who reside in the cities.
Judge McGechan states that the putea as it was, could not serve the interest of Maori in the city. To the National Urban Maori Authority that clearly means that Robin Hapi and the Fisheries Commission owe the majority of Maori who reside in the city, an apology rather than a patronising and arrogant press release.
