Vehicle registrations up 20 percent for September
Vehicle registrations for September were up 20.5 percent on last year, according to figures from the Land Transport Safety Authority.
There were 26,855 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this September, compared with 22,285 in September 2002.
Total first-time car registrations were up 21.8 percent, from 16,852 in September 2002 to 20,531 last month. New car registrations were up 15.0 percent, from 6,014 to 6,915, while used import registrations jumped 25.6 percent from 10,838 to 13,616.
The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Toyota with 19.0 percent, ahead of Ford with 15.5 percent. Holden registered a 14.8 percent market share, followed by Mitsubishi with 11.9 percent.
The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon and Toyota Corolla.
Truck registrations were up 15.6 percent, from 2,583 in
September 2002 to 2,986 last month. Trailer registrations
rose 13.2 percent, from 1,702 to 1,927 while motorcycle
registrations (over 60cc) rose from 362 to 402. Tractor
registrations rose from 353 to 359, while bus registrations
were up from 113 to 121.
