National Grandparents Week Enters Second Year
In 2002 to coincide with the launch of Flora! Flora! the nation’s only true 100% Pure Floral Art and Design Competition and Exhibition, the Worlds of Wellington Trust initiated the first ‘motivational release’ of National Grandparents Week.
Not surprisingly it found instant and positive response up and down the country. Media, community organisations, especially those involved in the more senior members of our community, politicians and schools all voiced their support and started localised programmes and projects to recognise the role that ‘grandparents’ play in the fabric of the country.
This year the week set aside starts on Sunday October 26 and ends on November 1.
The Worlds of Wellington Trust who have been the promoter of the concept, continue to state that this is not about commercialism or profit, it is about recognising and acknowledging the years of dedication, support and mostly7 under-rated work that grandparents give to their families.
National Grandparent’s Week is and should be universal.
As we hurriedly charge through each day we often ignore or just haven’t ‘time’ to thank those members of our family that have committed themselves unselfishly to our own welfare. Ask yourselves, who is that free baby sitter, the last minute helper who will drop everything and assist us when we are in a corner, who will love us unreservedly even when everyone else doesn’t care?
Grandparents!
The WOW Trust continues to support the promotion of this very special week in an effort to increase the level of recognition of this growing part of our society.
After all the kids have Christmas and birthdays, parents have mother and fathers days, lovers have Valentines so why not this newer period.
In most cases just a hug, a phone call, a bunch of flowers or a visit will be plenty. Just bother and take the time to care.
