Updated Electoral Rolls Available For Checking
Electors are being encouraged to check their enrolment details on the new printed electoral rolls that will be on public display from Wednesday September 3.
Electoral Enrolment Centre (EEC) National Manager Murray Wicks said that a total of some 28,000 new rolls were being produced for distribution to PostShops, public libraries, court houses and registrars of electors offices around the country.
“It’s important that all electors check to see that their enrolment details are correct,” Mr Wicks said. “If your details are not correct, your vote at any future election may not count.”
Mr Wicks said that some 31,000 electors have had their names removed from the roll because they have not re-enrolled following a change of address since last year’s general election. Electors who have moved or changed their name and have not updated their enrolment details should do so as soon as possible.
“If your enrolment details are incorrect or need updating, you will need to fill in a new enrolment form. Enrolment forms are available from all PostShops, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from our website www.elections.org.nz,” he said. “Electors can also check their enrolment details on line by visiting the website.”
Mr Wicks said that the 204,000 eligible electors who are currently not enrolled should also fill in an enrolment form. This figure represents around 7.2 per cent of the eligible voting population.
