Union Request For Speaking Rights To Cdhb Declined
“The Chair of the CDHB has declined to allow NUPE speaking rights to the 15 August Board meeting,” said Nadine Marshall, Secretary of the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) today.
“NUPE members in four halfway houses for about forty mentally ill patients in Christchurch asked for the right to speak at the Board about the fact that the service they have provided for 17 years and their jobs were disappearing,” said Nadine Marshall. “Our members sat through the last Board meeting holding placards saying ‘Please Listen’. Despite telling them they could make an oral submission, the Board Chair has now declined to even allow them the dignity of doing so.”
“Because the Board is refusing to allow our members to speak, NUPE has decided to talk directly to the public of Canterbury and is beginning a campaign called ‘Health Cuts Hurt’,” said Nadine Marshall.
“Tomorrow the ‘Health Cuts Hurt’ campaign
will target the visit of Minister of Health Annette King to
Canterbury”, said Nadine Marshall. “Canterbury people – and
the Minister - will get to read the message directly that
