Green Party moratorium Bill Provides Opportunity
LSN welcomes opportunity provided by Green Party moratorium Bill
The Life Sciences Network welcomes the opportunity for Parliament to debate the merits of the moratorium on GE which will arise from the Green Party’s private member’s Bill.
“There’s a sense in which this issue won’t go away in the political firmament until the idea of an extension of the moratorium has been defeated.
“The Parliamentary debate around the Bill, if it makes it through the ballot process, will be a great opportunity for politicians to canvas the arguments which have been out there in the public domain,” said Dr William Rolleston, Chairman of the LSN, today.
“The proposal for an extension of the moratorium deserves to be defeated. There are no valid grounds for Parliament to impose its judgement on the rest of the country without considering, on a case by case basis, the merits of individual applications. Arguments that our trading prospects would be damaged are not supported by the evidence available and should be dismissed.
“The Life Sciences Network has continued to argue for an informed dialogue about these issues and believes that a Parliamentary debate which results in the extension being disposed of is in the best interests of continued dialogue,” concluded Dr Rolleston.
