A second Air Force Orion and 19 personnel departed Whenuapai today for the Middle East as part of Operation Troy.

The Orion, crew and support personnel will relieve their colleagues who have spent the last two months undertaking Maritime Interdiction Operations as part of the multinational Operation Enduring Freedom.

"The Orion detachment has so far achieved a 100% mission success rate - every mission has departed on time. The replacement personnel and aircraft aim to continue to operate at this standard of excellence" says Operation Troy Detachment Commander, Wing Commander Carl Nixon.

Operation Troy demonstrates the Air Force's ability to operate with multinational forces and to play an appropriate role in New Zealand's commitment to worldwide security.

"Our people are the best, they have been well trained, have equipment suited to the task, and will perform to the highest standards" says Chief of Air Force, Air Vice-Marshal John Hamilton.
