Te Mangai Paho Chief Executive Trevor Moeke Vindicated by the Review
Outgoing Te Mangai Paho Chief Executive said today that he was pleased that the review had come to an end, and while not
surprised, was very pleased to be vindicated by the review of his handling of the Slightly Offbeat productions matters.
"During the past months untrue and distressing statements have been made about me - by certain politicians and by the
media - I would now expect that those concerned, if they have an ounce of decency, will apologise."
He said that the 'trial by media', which had included reporters staking out his house, had been extremely hard on his
family, which includes three school-age children.
Mr Moeke said that it was a sad fact that despite being vindicated it was still necessary for him to stand down as Chief
Executive to restore public confidence in the agency.
He said that the negative publicity, unwarranted though it was, had impacted on the agency and his staff and had been a
distraction from TMP's primary focus of promoting Maori language and broadcasting.
"Of course it is with considerable regret that I am stepping aside, particularly when I know I have more to offer.
However, the kaupapa is the most important thing to consider at this time, and I accept that I have become a target for
publicity and it is therefore not in TMP's interest that I continue as CE of the agency."
Mr Moeke said he and his family were sustained throughout by the unwavering support and encouragement of staff, whanau,
friends and Maori leadership, and he sincerely thanked all the people who had stood by him.
He said that as he had done all his adult life, he would continue working for Maori educational, cultural and economic
advancement, and as requested by the TMP Board had agreed to assist with various projects for the next nine months.
