LSN welcomes govt's Biotechnology
Strategy
Life Sciences Network Chairman Dr William Rolleston has welcomed the release of the Government’s Biotechnology Strategy today.
“The strategy document is a step in the right direction for the future of biotechnology in New Zealand, it is consistent with the Royal Commission's recommendation of preserving opportunities and in-line with the direction the Life Sciences Network has been advocating.” Dr Rolleston said.
However Dr Rolleston suggested the document could have gone further in highlighting the underpinning role of high quality science in our future development.
“If this country is to make an impact in the biotechnology revolution, we need to achieve the qualities of scientific excellence and world leadership, particularly in our universities and research institutes. The guiding principles should have included these qualities."
“However, the Life Sciences Network looks forward to working with the Government to achieve positive outcomes for the benefit of New Zealand and our environment,” Dr Rolleston concluded.
