A better deal for our children

A better deal for our children

The Alliance spokesperson on Children, Laila Harre, has welcomed NGO calls for the government to better address the needs of children.

Ms Harre was responding to the second New Zealand NGO report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

“The message to government from those working to promote and protect the rights of children is clear. Significant investment is needed to address issues of child poverty, inadequate housing and health, and discrimination and violence against children,” said Laila Harre.

“We join NGOs in calling for the full implementation of the Agenda for Children and the Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa,” said Laila Harre.

“The Alliance also supports the call to abolish a minimum wage based on age. We support fair pay for work done, regardless of age.”

“The challenge for government has been laid by those who work with, and have a deep understanding of, the needs of children and young people.”
