Hail Maharey's Underclass
"If Mr Maharey was truly genuine about his desire to improve skill and knowledge in New Zealand's work force he would
move aside and leave it to the FREE market," said Peter Osborne, Libertarianz Education Deregulation Spokesman, today.
"The very sad irony," says Osborne, is that the policies of this government are the direct cause of a worsening
underclass. An underclass that has been conned by short sighted bribes in return for votes."
"Steve Maharey is obviously too short sighted to see that it is the very policies from governments of his philosophy,
National included, that are the cause of the problems that he is trying to fix. Since the Labour government came into
power, numeracy and literacy levels among school leavers have never been so poor. Yet the cost to the taxpayer has never
been so high. Now he intends to spend more taxpayer money to kick-start a new initiative in an effort to alleviate the
problem."
Osborne notes that the Minister talks about finding a 'greater balance' between our working and home lives. "Excuse me!"
cries an incredulous Osborne. "Has Mr Maharey stopped to work out how much an average pay packet goes straight back to
the government via tax? One member of each working couple leaves the house every morning jut to pay the family's tax
bill! The only reason people have to work such long hours is because government's keep dipping their hands in the
pockets of every productive New Zealander. His government, and governments like it, have made an underclass - it has
become a whole new electorate."
Osborne concludes that the best way to unleash the potential of New Zealanders is to get off their backs. "Libertarianz
will stop taxing them blind," he says. " We will eliminate the Employment Ministry, among others, and all it's pointless
and wasteful workshops. Education and initiatives to improve skill and knowledge will be left to the free market. Tax
will remain in the pockets of the earner who will then be able to up-skill and will also have time for some fun. We will
remove all state-initiated hurdles that restrict people from living in freedom. Bribery will remain a criminal offence.
A constitution will ensure that this especially applies to government. Extortion will remain a criminal offence and will
also apply to government. Mr Maharey and friends will have to find other avenues in which to spread their lies and
deceit."
