Power Feminism Failing New Zealand Women, Children And Society

The logical consequence of feminism, as evident in the Ministry of Women’s Affairs Action Plan for Women, is an ideology set on destroying the very first institution of a civilised society, the family, says mother of three and writer Alexis Stuart.

“This document is feminist politicking at its worst but also it most successful. Ambiguous language obscures the intention of reaping in the female tax dollars and marginalising the role which men must play in the lives of women and children.”

The forces of feminism are alive and prospering in our culture and government with the action plan proof of feminist preoccupations.

Alexis Stuart says feminist theory is about political action and this is what we have got in the national plan.

“Feminist ideology, at its centre, is all power and autonomy for women. The feminist credo is political code for children a distant second and men as the enemy. Egocentricity, the focus on the self, distorts reality and concludes with the erosion of supporting relationships,” she says.

The women and children, who shape single parent families, are the tragic consequence of feminist ethics.

Minister of Women’s Affairs, Ruth Dyson, claims in the plan that women’s lives have improved over the last few decades. The reality is our national statistics are appalling.

“Feminisms passion for overturning bourgeois norms by discouraging the institute of marriage and encouraging single parenting has bred poverty, child illiteracy and abuse, increased crime and our burgeoning teenage pregnancy rate.

“Overwhelmed mothers and unguided teenagers are generating a huge increase in violent crime by females. Potentially life changing sexually transmitted disease, abortion and repeat abortions are at an all time high.

“Is this really the sexual revolution women were looking for?” asks Alexis Stuart.

“Presumption is the backbone of the Action Plan for Women. It states that economic autonomy is required for women to have a better quality of life – quality of life as defined by the state. The agenda is to put women in to the paid workforce and in feminist speak says that they should rely on the state instead of their husbands.”

Alexis Stuart says this power feminism is a failure. “It is a failure because it has treated women as autonomous individuals when they are not. We exist in relationship and this idea of self sufficiency has caused further neglect of family.”

“True economic emancipation of women, the emancipation that we haven’t seen yet the emancipation that respects freedom and dignity of women as necessary for healthy families, society and democracy is clearly not part of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs agenda.”
