ANA supports the ‘Healthy Eating – Healthy Action’

March 6 2003
Press Release

Agencies for Nutrition Action supports the ‘Healthy Eating – Healthy Action’ strategy launched by Minister of Health, Annette King today (6/03/03). The strategy provides a framework for action to address nutrition, physical activity and obesity issues in New Zealand.

‘Agencies for Nutrition Action has long advocated for a strategic framework to address the increasing levels of overweight and obesity in New Zealanders’ says Christina McKerchar, Executive Officer, Agencies for Nutrition Action. ‘We are pleased to see the launch of this strategy and hope that it signifies increased support for public health programmes that successfully encourage healthy eating and physical activity,’ says Ms McKerchar.

‘However while the strategy is a very positive step, the implementation of the strategy will only be successful if there is an increased commitment from government to tackle the environmental causes of obesity inherent in our modern sedentary lifestyles,’ Ms McKerchar says.
