Wanted six MPs with a conscience
“Last night the CHP was looking for MPs who have a conscience when offered a conscience vote. Sadly the Parliament voted by just six votes to accept the Prostitution Reform Bill,” said Party Leader Graham Capill.
“The challenge is still there, however. Will there be six MPs who will show they have the courage to stand by the 8,000 women who will be victims if this legislation is passed into law?
“Why normalise a behaviour that every thinking MP must know will lead to more STDs, HIV, drug abuse, violence and destroys families?
“Far from protecting ‘sex workers’, this immoral Bill is an attack on women and the values that undergird a healthy society.
“The government should be more concerned to address the root causes that lead women into prostitution in the first place. Taking the brakes off will only lead to the death of women who will now receive no protection from pimps and drug dealers, not to mention ‘clients’, since the police will only be called once it is too late.
“MPs have one more opportunity at the third reading of the Bill to stand for what is morally right. By all means reform the law by holding clients responsible, but why embrace a reform which other countries around the world have found to be a disaster,” concluded Graham Capill.
