EPMU Collective Agreement for 2000 Workers

Negotiations start this week in the country’s largest and most influential private-sector industrial agreement.

The Metals and Manufacturing Industries Collective Agreement covers more than 2000 workers at more than 200 companies directly, and thousands more indirectly.

Negotiated between the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union and the Employers’ and Manufacturers’ Association, the Metals is acknowledged as the leading document in the manufacturing sector.

This year, 45 companies have been cited as original parties to the negotiations. Others will be invited to join once the agreement has been settled.

Workers covered by the Metals have held a series of meetings around the country over the past two weeks. Several hundred people are expected to attend the final meeting, in Auckland, tomorrow (February 11).

Claims this year include a fourth week’s annual leave and a fair wage rise.

Talks begin in Auckland on Wednesday and are scheduled to run until Friday.

The current agreement expires on March 7.
