Local Government Thanks Select Committee
for Modern Bill
For immediate release on Wednesday 11 December 2002
The Chief Executive of Local Government New Zealand, Peter Winder, today thanked the Local Government and Environment Select Committee for all their hard work which has resulted in a modernised Local Government Bill.
“Members and officials have obviously worked extremely hard to produce a much improved Bill from the one that was introduced over a year ago,” Mr Winder said.
“This legislation is modern, sensible and understandable and once it’s been passed will bring a long awaited modernisation to the local government sector,” he said.
“The recently tabled Bill has also been re-drafted in such a way that it reduces compliance costs – another reason to thank the Committee for their hard work and attention to detail,” Mr Winder concluded.
