Local Government Welcomes Transport Bill
President of Local Government New Zealand, Basil Morrison today welcomed the introduction of the Government’s Land
Transport Management Bill.
“We welcome the introduction of this Bill and congratulate Paul Swain for his efforts in bringing us to this point. We
look forward to working through the document and consulting with our members to establish our position on the Bill,”
said Mr Morrison.
The first opportunity to do this will be on Thursday 5 December 2002 when Local Government New Zealand holds a Transport
Forum (closed to the media) where attendees will hear from the Minister of Transport and have an opportunity to discuss
the Bill.
Over 120 members have registered for the Transport forum, indicating just how important the issue of transport is to
councils throughout the country.
“Given the role local government plays in the transport sector it is vital that we take every opportunity over the next
few months to discuss the Bill and ensure our submission to the Select Committee is a fair representation of the
sector’s views,” said Mr Morrison.
