"Growth Will Come When Government Shrinks"

Libertarianz Leader Russell Watkins said today the proposed 'Prime Minister's Growth and Innovation Advisory Boards' one-day forum is "another example of bureaucrats figuring out ways to siphon off more money from struggling businesses." "In fact," says Watkins. "the words 'Prime Minister' in the same phrase as 'growth and innovation' is an oxymoron."

Watkins continues: "The idea that government and business should work with each other is like saying that a burglar should meet with a his victim and discuss better ways to increase his booty." "The only 'innovations' the Labour government - and the virtually defunct National Party - have ever come up with have been better ways to stifle enterprise and/or to get their hands in our pockets: ACC, OSH, FBT, GST, Provisional Tax, Trade Restrictions, Minimum Wage Laws, Penal Rates, increased powers for the IRD, and the latest addition, the Paid Parental Leave tax burden. These are the only 'innovations' that ever come from these well-paid government beneficiaries, and business would do well to stay clear of them."

"The only way to increase the economic performance of this country is to unshackle the chains that tie up business, and use those chains to strangle Clark, Cullen and their bureaucratic minions, then we can embrace the only economic system consistent with human life: Complete, full, pure, uncontrolled, unregulated laissez-faire capitalism." concludes Watkins.
