Ethnic Youth Forum

Youth from various communities are gathering on the 14th of September at the Wellington City Council Chambers between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm to discuss issues that are important to being a New Zealander.

This forum focusing on ethnic youth issues is a first of its kind in New Zealand. This day long forum will be attended by young people of ages between 12 and 25. For the purposes of workshops they will be broken into two age bands, first - 12 to 17 years old and the second- 18 to 25. It is expected that the forum will cover issues such as
- Identity and self esteem,
- Values, connectedness and cultural confidence
- Education and Language
- Employment
- Health and Welfare
- Race relations, Racism and human rights

The Mayor of Wellington, Kerry Prendergast, is the Patron for this initiative.
The initial forum in Wellington is a pilot and is being organised with the view that it is the first of many similar forums to be held throughout New Zealand.

The pilot and future forums will allow youth from multi-ethnic backgrounds to bond and build a platform to discuss the issues confronting them.

There is a small group of young people working as a team to put this forum together. This forum sponsored by the New Zealand Federation of Ethnic Councils is made possible through Lotteries Grant and is supported by
