Cedenco Says Sweet Corn Products Do Not Contain GE Material
Gisborne-based food ingredient manufacturer and exporter, Cedenco Foods Ltd says its sweet corn products do not contain GE material
In a statement today the company said it guards its reputation as a clean, green supplier of top quality New Zealand food products.
“Our quality assurance programme is comprehensive and aimed at ensuring customer expectations are fully met.
“We are not in favour of genetically modified foodstuffs. Our business is built on taking top quality New Zealand produce, and processing it as ingredients for international food producers.
“The New Zealand sweet corn industry is reliant on seed imported from Australia and the United States, and Cedenco continues to test for GE content in excess of the mandatory NZ requirements.
“Further rigorous international testing followed our initial suspicion there might be a trace of GE content in some seeds imported for last year’s sweet corn crop. The further test results produced no creditable evidence of any GE content.
“If we had any doubt about last years sweet corn crop we would have pulled it from the ground ourselves and replanted, but there was no scientific basis for doing this.
“We have complete confidence in the quality of all the products made from the resulting crop.
“At all times Cedenco will ensure its products conform to agreed MAF standards, and will produce food products in which local and international customers can have the utmost confidence.
