Media Release – Growth and Innovation Advisory Board
The Chair of the newly established Growth and Innovation Advisory Board Rick Christie, says he looks forward to further developing the partnership between Government and the private sector.
“The government has clearly identified innovation as the key to lifting New Zealand’s productivity, and the need for New Zealand to be much more globally connected if we are to be more competitive.”
Mr Christie was previously Chair of the Science & Innovation Advisory Council which has already reported to Government on a number of issues over the last two years.
The Board will provide independent perspectives on how the Government can advance its growth and innovation programme.
“I am privileged to be part of this new future-focused team that will work hard to deliver strongly independent, well considered advice to the Government.”
Mr Christie says the expertise and broad networks of members will ensure that the Board can positively contribute to identifying new opportunities for government and private sector actions.
“This initiative provides a great opportunity for business and government to
harness their collective skills and wisdom to advance the nation’s future well-being.
“Board members are well placed to identify new paths to growth and emerging international trends that could result in new priorities for action. We will build on the valuable work of those who contributed to the Growth and Innovation framework, and look forward to working with those who are advancing innovation in their own areas of activity.”
The Board members are due to have their first meeting in July.
