TV Funding Boost Delights

8 May 2002

NZ On Air is delighted at the announcement of an additional $ 6 million dollars from Government to support the production of local content television.

"This money secures the levels of quality and local content on television that NZ On Air has built up over the past few years," said NZ On Air's chief executive, Jo Tyndall.

"Our recent local content survey clearly indicated where public funding is adding value. As the pressure has gone on NZ On Air's funding, we have increasingly focused our available funds on the at-risk genres.

"With this extra investment, NZ On Air will be able to continue to support a wide variety of television genres including the at-risk areas such as drama, comedy, documentary and children's programming," Ms Tyndall said.

"The new funding, as with all NZ On Air television funds, will be fully contestable, bringing greater quality and diversity to New Zealand's free to air television channels."

Ms Tyndall said NZ On Air would be working closely with TVNZ in the implementation of the TVNZ charter.
