Tax-Funded Gamekeepers Turn Poachers

Published: Fri 12 Apr 2002 09:29 AM
"Yesterday's revelation that one of the WINZ employees convicted of defrauding the department took $24,000 and is now repaying the amount by $10 a week from his unemployment benefit, is richly ironic," says Lindsay Mitchell, Libertarianz spokesman for the deregulation of welfare.
"He was originally paid with taxpayer money, then stole taxpayer money, and is now repaying the debt with more taxpayer money. Chances are, with a record like his, he'll be living off taxpayer money the rest of his life. Just who is getting punished here?" asks Mitchell.
She continues incredulously: "Apparently WINZ staff are undergoing education programmes to teach them that stealing is wrong! And these courses are also paid for . . . with taxpayer money"
"I ask the public, who amongst you wants to pay tax to fund sole mothers with multiple children to multiple fathers; to pay same-sex couples pulling benefits heterosexual couples are not entitled to; to pay invalids with illnesses that are only incapacitating to those who do not want to work; to house gang members and their families? If we don't want to pay, then the tax taken is stolen money."
"Stealing is wrong," insists Mitchell,"and it must stop. When governments force the transfer of money from one person to the next, each party involved in the process is affected by the immorality of this action. Thieving, be it by staff members, beneficiaries or bureaucrats, is the result."
"The Libertarianz alone recognise this reality and believe that the provision of welfare can only be successfully and fairly accomplished as a voluntary action," concludes Mitchell.
It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
