'Family Violence' Policy Reeks of Hypocrisy
"The Clark government's latest nanny-knows-best strategy for family violence is both ill-focused and hypocritical," declared Libertarianz Leader Peter Cresswell. "Big Sister Clark obviously misses the irony of her government denouncing violence when the government commits violence against its citizens every day of the week - and twice on payday."
"All forms of violence are vile crimes that should be the primary focus of the courts and police," affirms Cresswell, who notes that the police might have time to do just if they "stopped using brute force to search, hunt down, arrest and incarcerate people for victimless 'crimes' such as possessing, producing and distributing substances they choose to ingest into their bodies, such as marijuana and heroin."
But how can Clark, Anderton and Little Steve Maharey seriously claim to be against violence when their government departments such as Inland Revenue, Ministry of Health, Department of Labour and Customs all happily use force to confiscate people's property, and to force people against their will?" he asks.
"If Clark, Anderton and Little Steve want to know the source of much of the violence in families they should look in the mirror," says Cresswell. "Many hundreds of thousands of families live off money that the government confiscates by force from others, and these beneficiaries are utterly unaccountable for that money." Accountability should begin at home, says Cresswell, but points out that the government's own theft and violence is not much of a lesson for beneficiaries. "Families living off money violently appropriated from others are hardly likely to feel much compunction about using violence themselves, are they?" he asks.
"There have been too many years of government theft," he says. "and too much hypocrisy about it."
Regarding the new policy on Family Violence he says there has also been "too much politically correct psychobabble that says 'at-risk' teenagers are not responsible for their own violence; that excuses violence committed in a 'cultural context'; that says women who commit brutalities on their children should be sentenced less harshly than men. This latest Policy Statement," he says, "is just more of the same."
Libertarianz believes anyone initiating violence against anyone else should always feel the full force of the law, regardless of race and sex. "Any parent committing violence against a child to which they are guardian should be treated accordingly," says Cresswell, "and so should any politician advocating violence against taxpayers. No exceptions. That is a policy on violence that can be written on a postage stamp, but one that no nanny-knows-best government would never consider."
It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
